Who doesn’t enjoy a cooked breakfast of bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs and toast with a lovely hot cuppa? The benefactor of Cuppa for a Cause 2016 is Alzheimers and in support of this we decided to host a breakfast for residents and staff. The scrumptious smells filled Leslie Groves on the morning of Friday, 30 September as pyjama clad residents and staff came together in Redwood, Ferntree and Taieri to enjoy breakfast. There was lots of laughter and fun as residents enjoyed seeing staff in pyjamas and dressing gowns too!
This was such a worthy cause and one close to our hearts -dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, is one of the most significant global health challenges facing our generation (World Alzheimer Report, 2014). Nearly 60,000 people in New Zealand live with a diagnosis of dementia. This number is expected to triple by 2050. Many more of us, family, friends and community members are affected by dementia.
