While many of our top athletes and sports people were away competing at the Olympic Games and Paralympics in Rio, we decided to hold our own “Games” here at Leslie Groves!

The Opening Ceremony was held on Thursday 28 July, with special guest New Zealand Olympic walker Robbie Johnston giving a very informative and entertaining speech.

Over the following three weeks Leslie Groves was a buzz of excitement! A lot of fun and laughter was enjoyed by both residents and staff competing in numerous events – Shoot the Hoop, Bean Bag Throw, Balloon Relay, Cup Stacking and Dart Glide were some of the closely contested games.

On 18 August the Rest Home team came to the Hospital for a final afternoon of competition. And what an afternoon we had! Otago Highlanders Hayden Parker and Josh Renton paid us a visit and were great sports, joining in and providing lots of laughs and entertainment! A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was finished off with medal presentations and afternoon tea.
